To Be a Hero

Every story is told from the hero’s point of view. They save the world and then they get their love interest. That’s how a lot of them go. But mine. Mine is told by a villain’s child. I remember going to school every day and getting antagonized because of who my father is. But, little did they know, that I also have hero’s blood flowing through my veins. They’d think I’m crazy if I told them, so, I never did. Until now.

I walked through my school halls at the end of the day and as I passed, people snickered. I was apart of the cheer team, so I was wearing my cheer costume for the football game tonight. The colors were black and gold and there was a large tiger paw on the front of it. My cheer bag was in my locker, so at the end of class, I grabbed my bag and I sat in the bus for the game. As I put on my shoes, someone sat next to me. It was my best friend. “I managed to sneak on without being caught.” He said as the football players and cheerleaders filed on.

“This is so fun!” My best friend, William, said during halftime as the other cheerleaders talked about boys. The cheer captain’s boyfriend Cameron walked by all sweaty. His fluffy brown hair was wet and as he walked over to the cheer captain, Jessie, his girlfriend, he saw her flirting with another man. So, I walked over, tapped her shoulder, and punched her. My mother sat in the bleachers and when she saw my punch, she clapped. Jessie looked at me, and threw another punch.

Dodging it, I managed to get her to the ground where she eventually passed out from seeing my broken and bloody nose. I got off of her and my coach walked over with a doctor and they got me patched up. But as for Jessie, she was expelled for sleeping with our science teacher, Mr. Jackson. But after the game, Cameron had talked to me for the first time since elementary school. ‘Thanks. I never knew she was such a slut.” He said as we boarded the bus back to school and on the way, William, Cameron, and I laughed all the way.

“For the bravery award we have Jane Bulgrade for standing up to a bully to help a friend.” The principal said at the end of the year. I stood and accepted my award and he handed me the mic. “I’ll be honest. I tried to keep it a secret but I guess things change, so my mother is one of the biggest heroes on the planet. She’s known as the symbol of life, travelling all over the world to help those who are in the midst of a drought or a hurricane. But for my father, he is the polar opposite as everyone knows. But, I’m different. I can both stop life and create it.” I started and everyone smiled. “But even though my parents have become heroes and villians, I’ve decided to become something different. I’ve decided to become an author. An author who writes about real life problems and difficulties during major events throughout history, while I change history.” I conclude and I see my mother crying with Cameron and William next to her. I hand the principal the mic and walk towards my mother.

That’s how I was to be a hero.
